The weekend of the 13th and 14th February stored a lot of fun for all who went to the regional BUCS Trampolining event in Plymouth. We left during the day on Saturday and made it to Plymouth in time for the warm up where we socialised with the other clubs, and some of the Freshers competing for the first time (Jennifer Spragg, Amy Jowsey and Daniel Stern) got to know other people in their category and learnt about the university competitions.
After the warm up session we headed off to our Travelodge expecting a night of card games and plans to watch the telly like last year, but that all changed with the mention of Pizza! The Captains headed off for a trip to the local Domino’s and returned with a feast of Pizza which we shared with the Bristol team, who shortly after suggested some team-building games. This seemed to be where the real competition was as we became very competitive when building newspaper towers, identifying people whilst blindfolded and trying to untangle human knots! Unfortunately the games were so close run that it was difficult to tell who really won, Bristol claim they did (but we all know that we were the real winners, they cheated!) All in all it was a fun night, despite it not being our usual drunken social the night before a competition.
On the Sunday we had an early start but for once the Little Chef was open and so some people managed to get a cooked breakfast before leaving at the unearthly hour of 8.15am. The competition itself was fun, slightly competitive (but not as much as our competition the night before), and a triumph for many of the Bath competitors.
In BUCS 5 Men’s category Daniel Stern, who competed for the first time, claimed first place. His victory was shortly followed by Daniel Willis (3rd, BUCS 3), Charlotte Lock (2nd, BUCS 3) and Giles Partington (3rd, BUCS 4). Unfortunately Daniel Stern was unable to qualify as BUCS 5 is only a regional level, and Daniel Willis didn’t qualify (Yet! It depends on his score compared to the other regionals) to the Nationals, and Emma Lonnen (4th, BUCS 4) did qualify as she was in the top 20% of her category. These individuals go on to join our BUCS 1 competitors (Rebecca Haywood, Charlotte Walmsley) and BUCS 2 competitors (Sarah Goring, Nicola Zeal, Sarah Williams, Vicky Voysey, Charlotte Pindar) for the Nationals in Sheffield
Our congratulations go to all competitors, as they competed impressive routines even if they didn’t manage to reach their targets as everyone had noticeably improved since preparation for the competition started.
